X - Men Origins: Wolverine Update..

Definitely, Maybe? Tomorrow’s Entertainment caught wind that Ryan Reynolds will be suiting up to play anti - hero Deadpool in X - Men Origins: Wolverine currently in production..

Now that filming has finally begun on the first X - Men prequel, X - Men Origins: Wolverine, details of who will be joining Hugh Jackman on his latest trip down Adamantium Way are starting to come to light..

Reynolds has been attached to both the role of Deadpool and The Flash in their own films for some time, but Deadpool’s appearance in the X - Men spin - off is expected to be our first glimpse at the red and grey suited sword - swinging assassin.. The studio may decide to spin Deadpool into his own movie if the character proves popular in Wolverine..

A source said..

” Fans were excited by rumours the film would feature Deadpool because he’s a legendary villain for Marvel comics readers.. So they’ll be delighted to know Ryan’s going to play him..

Deadpool is a mentally unstable mercenary, with special healing powers just like Wolverine’s.. He is full of funny one - liners and wisecracks.. It’s just the sort of thing Ryan is great at..”

Ryan - who will don Deadpool’s trademark tight red costume for the role - recently admitted he is partial to wearing a ” red onesie..

Sounds like the perfect comic book character for Reynolds, who’s made a name for himself in the comedic realm and always looks relaxed in front of the camera.. But can he kick ass? Of course he can! We’ve seen him in action with Wesley Snipes in Blade Trinity..

ComingSoon caught up with Reynolds some weeks back and asked him ” Are there any other superheroes you’d be interested in playing?” His answer..

” Basically for me there are two superheroes that I could play.. One would be Deadpool, the other would be The Flash.. There are no imminent plans to do either just now..”

And when prodded further about why Deadpool, Reynolds responded with..

” He’s just the ‘ merc with a mouth..’ For me I guess it’s a no - brainer..”

Either a lot has happened since that interview or Reynolds is a great liar..

I really like Reynolds, and think he does some really interesting stuff - love it or hate you have to admit that even The Nines was a brave and intriguing choice, and how good is Definitely, Maybe!? - but he really packs a punch when it comes to action movies.. He’ll likely only be in the film for ten minutes or so, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of Reynolds - in - Deadpool - attire in the future..

Meanwhile Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch has signed a three - picture deal to play Gambit ( AKA Remy LeBeau )..

The character of Gambit first appeared in 1990 in issue #266 of Uncanny X - Men.. He is a mutant and member of the X - Men who possesses the ability to manipulate kinetic energy as well as limited hypnosis.. He is known for his love and manipulation of playing cards, being incredibly skilled in card throwing and hand - to - hand combat, and the use of a Bo.. Gambit is the X - Men’s self - described ladies man and has held a relationship with Rogue over the years.. Gambit was rumored to appear in the third X - Men movie, but the character was later removed.. When you compare a picture of the character to Kitsch, they look almost exactly the same - so it’s a good match in that department..

I’m guessing that the producers, or maybe director Gavin Hood, finally realized how popular Gambit was and decided to throw him into the new Wolverine trilogy.. So why exactly is this exciting news? Gambit is one of the most popular characters from the Marvel universe that everyone has wanted to see featured in a movie because he’s so damn cool.. If anything, I might call him the cult favorite amongst particular comic book fans and the perfect superhero to see in a movie..

X - Men Origins: Wolverine will star Hugh Jackman ( Wolverine ), Liev Schreiber ( Sabretooth ), Danny Huston ( William Stryker ), Lynn Collins ( Silver Fox ) and ( We think ) Ryan Reynolds ( As Deadpool ).. Talk about an eclectic cast! What do you think?

Shooting moves here, Sydney, Australia, this week and some filming in Glebe Point Park is scheduled for the 29th February..

X - Men Origins: Wolverine arrives in theaters on the 1st May 2009..
