Timecop Remake..

The most successful movie of Jean - Claude Van Damme’s career was, if I’m not mistaken, Timecop, which made $44 million in the U.S. and over $100 million worldwide.. It spawned a short - lived TV series and a direct to DVD sequel, never to be heard from again; until now that is..

Easily the most entertaining film of his career, action man Jean - Claude Van Damme’s 1994 sci - fi effort Timecop is getting the remake treatment..

Mike Richardson, writer and creator of the comic book series, confirmed reports that he has been talking to Universal about producing a new Timecop movie.. Although Richardson did not reveal the nature of this film..

Dark Horse Entertainment producer / publisher Mike Richardson revealed to Tomorrow’s Entertainment last night that he is talking to Universal about bringing the property back to the big screen..

Richardson even admitted that there has been some talk about bringing certain ” talent ” to become the next Time Enforcement Agent - one of today’s big action stars apparently.. His exact words were..

” 100% bad ass and one of the coolest action stars of today..”

Sadly Jean Claude Van Damme himself won’t be returning in any capacity.. Both a short lived TV series, and a direct - to - DVD sequel titled Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision, starring Jason Scott Lee and Thomas Ian Griffith, were previously released to little notice, ratings or sales..

In the original film, Van Damme played a Time Enforcement Agent, part of a specialized police organization.. Conflicted because he knows it is possible to prevent his wife’s death, however his job as a Time Enforcement Agent prevents him from acting on such a prevention..

The concept is better than the sum of its parts, and with a good screenwriter, it could be a summer tentpole film.. Hopefully they won’t go all B - movie on us..

So, what? It’s going to be Gerard Butler, right? He’s being cast in tons of action projects these days.. Or perhaps Jason Statham, Dwayne ‘ The Rock ‘ Johnson, John Cena or Tomorrow’s Entertainment favourite, Tony Jaa.. Who do you think?
