The Actor / The Man / The Legend - Heath Ledger - 4th April 1979 - 23rd January 2008..

I know you guys expect the latest news, pics and trailers from all the upcoming movies here at Tomorrow’s Entertainment, but after the news regarding the death of Heath Ledger yesterday I felt it would be incredibly unfortunate to have immediate news regarding set pics from X - Files 2 or any other kind of news next to it.. As we get older things begin to affect us in a different way because the people that begin to pass away had a greater impact on our lives; Heath Ledger’s death did that to me..

There is nothing sadder than visiting some of the other movie sites and seeing articles speculating the future of The Dark Knight, comments by readers asking if Ledger was done filming and praying the film wouldn’t be postponed..

Australian actor Heath Ledger ( The Dark Knight, I’m Not There ) was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug - related death, police said.. They said the 28yo was found in the bedroom of the Soho apartment..

At 3:31 pm, a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr Ledger, the police said.. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr Ledger’s bedroom.. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr Ledger unconscious.. They shook him, but he did not respond.. They immediately called the authorities.. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near his body..

The actor was found face down at the foot of his bed with prescription sleeping pills nearby.. There was no obvious indication that the actor had committed suicide.. About the tragic loss, Ledger’s former The Patriot co - star Mel Gibson stated..

” I had such great hope for him.. He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss..”

A crowd of about three hundred gathered to watch Ledger’s body be removed from the apartment.. He was wheeled out on a gurney and placed in a medical examiner’s office van.. Medical examiner’s office spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said that an autopsy was planned for Wednesday..

The very sad and unexpected news has shocked everyone.. Ledger leaves behind one child, a two - year-old daughter named Matilda Rose, with his estranged wife actress Michelle Williams..

The young actor made a name for himself on Australian soaps and films like Sweat, Home and Away and Two Hands.. He quickly landed the lead in the short - lived US fantasy series Roar before hitting movie stardom with such projects as A Knight’s Tale, The Patriot, and 10 Things I Hate About You..

Most fans will remember Ledger for his Oscar - nominated turn in Brokeback Mountain, as well they should.. His role marks one of the great, astonishing acting transformations of our time.. I loved Ledger’s early, lighter work - his goofy romantic lead in the teen - Shakespeare farce 10 Things I Hate About You, his sly, tongue - in - cheek turn as a medieval sports hero in A Knight’s Tale - and I even enjoyed his dramatic posturing as the callow rebel of The Patriot and the resentful son of Monster’s Ball.. But I’d never have guessed that he had that Brokeback performance in him.. From his slow gait to his swallowed baritone speech, his lonesome cowpoke Ennis seemed like a brand new person, yet one the actor fully inhabited.. Indeed, it’s now impossible to imagine that any of his contemporaries could have done a better job, so indelible is Ledger’s performance..

After Brokeback, Ledger’s characters began to take a darker turn.. There was the drug - addiction drama Candy, which I fear I’ll never be able to watch again without cringing, and his forthcoming turn as a bedraggled, scary - looking Joker in this summer’s Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight.. I’m sure no one will be able to watch that one either without seeing unintended ironies and eerie portents of doom.. It’s always facile to read an actor’s off - screen life into his choice of roles ( If you saw Ledger’s depiction of Bob Dylan’s crumbling marriage in the recent I’m Not There, you could be forgiven for being reminded of the recent dissolution of Ledger’s off - screen union with Michelle Williams ), but still, for now, I prefer to remember the jokey, cheerful, cheeseball Ledger of Knight’s Tale and 10 Things, movies enhanced by the sense they conveyed that Ledger was thoroughly enjoying himself..

An autopsy on Heath Ledger was inclusive, and more tests are needed, the medical examiner’s office said Wednesday, a day after the 28 - year - old actor was found dead with sleeping pills nearby..

It will take about 10 days to complete the investigation, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner.. Earlier, police said the death was caused by a possible drug overdose and appeared to be accidental..

In what may be his final finished performance, he took a rare role in a guaranteed summer blockbuster, playing Batman’s nemesis, the Joker, in the upcoming The Dark Knight..

The actor’s personal strife was accompanied by professional anxiety.. Ledger said in an interview in November that The Dark Knight and last year’s I’m Not There, took a heavy toll.. From the New York Times on November 4, 2007 with regards to playing The Joker in The Dark Knight..

It all tied him in knots. “I stressed out a little too much,” Mr. Ledger said.

He tends to do that. He is here in London filming the latest episode of the “Batman” franchise, “The Dark Knight.” (Mr. Bale, as it happens, plays Batman; Mr. Ledger plays the Joker.) It is a physically and mentally draining role — his Joker is a “psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy” he said cheerfully — and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.

“Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” he said. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.

Michelle Williams, the former fiancee of actor Heath Ledger, and mother of his two - year - old daughter, was flying home to New York today after learning of the actor’s mysterious death..

Mr Williams, whose American actor daughter Michelle Williams was formerly engaged to Ledger, said Ledger left a beautiful impression during his short life.

” I think Tennyson got it right in the poem when he described someone as having died at a young age but burning the candles at both ends, and oh what a beautiful flame he made..”

” That was Heath, what a beautiful flame he made and a great talent.. My heart goes out to everyone in his family and my family..”

Mr Williams said it was terrible that Ledger’s two - year - old daughter Matilda would grow up without her father..

” The saddest thing is his daughter whom he just loved dearly..”

Ledger met Michelle Williams on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2004.. The couple split last September..

Speaking about fatherhood two months ago Ledger told Fox News ago he felt “ good about dying ” because he would live on through his two - year - old daughter Matilda..

“I think you also look at death differently,” he said. “It’s like a Catch-22 - I feel good about dying now because I feel like I’m alive in her.

“But at the same (time) you don’t want to die because you want to be around for the rest of her life. It’s kind of like an interesting kind of little set up.”

In a recent interview to promote his latest film I’m Not There - where he plays one of several incarnations of Bob Dylan’s personality - he also spoke of death.

“When I die, my money’s not gonna come with me,” he said in the interview published in The Sunday Telegraph’s Sunday Magazine on November 18 last year. “My movies will live on - for people to judge what I was as a person. I just want to stay curious.”

The actor spent much of December and January in Perth with his family and had said he was grateful to the people of Perth and local media for leaving him alone to be himself on his holiday..

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends..

RIP: The Actor, the Man, the Legend.. Heath Ledger.. You will be missed..

I’m going to be honest here…I wasn’t a fan of Ledger’s work for the most part. That’s not to say I disliked anything he did, his roles in A Knight’s Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You were fun and well acted roles, but Ledger didn’t stand out for me in any way. He was just another actor.
But with that said, I am very touched by what Mr. Ledger said about death and living on in his daughter. I have two daughter’s myself, and the way he talked about the Catch-22 of living on forever and not wanting to ever leave your child is so very true. I feel deeply for that little girl for having to grow up without her daddy and my thoughts go out to his entire family during this time. It’s NEVER easy to explain sudden death like this at such a young age.

So even from a “non-fan” like myself, Heath Ledger will still be missed. RIP.
