High Noon Remake..
There’s been a lot of talk lately about how 3:10 to Yuma has reenergized the Western genre, and that’s great.. Except it’s been resurrected by a remake, which probably means more remakes of other Westerns in the future, rather than exciting new material.. Now High Noon is going to be getting a remake too..
The rights to the 1952 Gary Cooper / Grace Kelly western were picked up earlier this week by producer Mark Headley, actor Christopher Mitchum, and business partner Toni Covington.. With the rights in hand, the trio has formed High Noon Productions and are looking for a star and a director to headline the remake..
The production company hopes to start shooting early next year with a hopefully budget of $20 million.. Of course, in order to shoot they’ll have to have a script, which might be difficult to obtain right now due to the strike, unless they’re just going to use the same script as the 1952 picture..
This isn’t the first time High Noon has been remade.. Tom Skerritt starred in a televison version of the movie, made in 2000.. Somehow that wasn’t enough evidence that this could be a potentially bad idea..
High Noon has a pretty memorable award record - it won four Oscars, is considered to have suffered one of the biggest Oscar upsets ( Losing Best Picture to The Greatest Show on Earth ), helped Katy Jurado to be the first Mexican Golden Globe winner, and is considered the 27th best film of all time by the American Film Institute.. If all of this success never inspired you to see the classic western, it focuses on a marshal about to retire and marry when a man he put behind bars returns with a gang, thirsty for revenge..
