Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Update..
Hang on everyone, there is a new rumor tonight regarding famous directors and a possible two part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows film.. Harry Potter fans are set to get a double treat in the film of the final story - and movie makers are set to double their money..
Crew working on the sixth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half - Blood Prince, have been told that J.K. Rowling’s seventh book in the series - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - will be released in two parts.. Not only will this give Potter fans an unexpected 8th film to look forward to, but releasing it in two parts will also give Warner Brothers the opportunity to squeeze out every last dollar in the Harry Potter franchise..
Warner Bros insists that the decision was made on artistic rather than financial grounds despite the fact that the decision may net them a further £500 million.. A statement on J.K. Rowling’s website supports their reasoning..
As cynical as that sounds, Warner Brothers have earned more than 5 billion dollars in box office receipts from the first five Harry Potter films, and by releasing the film in two halves they stand to earn an extra $1 billion.. Sources, however, insist that the reason behind making the book into two films is not financial in nature, but rather, artistic..
As Rowling wrote more books in the Harry Potter series, they got progressively longer.. The first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, had a manageable 223 pages.. But the last book - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - is a whopping 776 pages long, which is more than 3 times the length of the first book.. Fans have long complained that large chunks of the books have been left out of the film versions of some of the later novels, so perhaps the decision to release Deathly Hallows in two parts is at least partially in response to those complaints..
A source revealed..
” There’s so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves.. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well..”
And even J.K. Rowling herself indicated on her website:
” It is simply impossible to incorporate every storyline into a film under four hours long..”
Okay, so do the battle well, but don’t turn it into an epic.. The battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix was amazing, but it wasn’t two hours long..
The idea that the next Harry Potter movie will have to be cut in two because the source material is so sprawling is one that’s been popping up since the fourth film.. It went into overdrive for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was the longest book in the series, and ended up being the shortest film.. The truth is that J.K. Rowling’s books are filled with wonderful world building details that either don’t belong in a movie or can be part of the set dressing; out of the long Potter novels only Goblet of Fire really feels packed with events and plot.. I, along with most fans of the book series were rather surprised that Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix had not been split into two films.. Goblet was over 700 pages, while Order neared the 900 page mark.. I think both of the films suffered from plot compression, over exhausting viewers who had not previously consumed the book versions.. I applaud Warner Bros for finally taking this leap, if only it could have happened a bit sooner.. It’s too bad that the studio didn’t at least allow production of extra scenes and sequences for a super extended versions on DVD ( Ala Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Extended Editions )..
There are reports that a name director such as Spielberg may be called in for the final film.. Complaints were made about earlier movies that left parts of the books out due to the fact that the books grew progressively longer as the series continued.. Steven Spielberg had previously considered directing Philosopher’s Stone, but later declined.. As many fans will know, several names have been linked to the last film, including but not limited to; Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuaron, David Yates and Guillermo Del Toro..
A spokesman for Warner Brothers, when asked to comment, said..
” People are discussing all possibilities..”
Get excited about the seventh film coming to theaters but don’t put too much stock in silly rumors until we get an actual source..
