A Nightmare on Elm Street Update..

Freddy Krueger is getting a wakeup call..

Not everyone is bummed about the idea of remaking Nightmare on Elm Street.. In fact, some positive comments are coming from the most unlikely of sources: original Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund..

Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been set by New Line to relaunch the movie series centered on the iconic killer, who haunts the dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep..

The trio will create a new franchise based on Wes Craven’s 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street..

Originally played by Robert Englund, the Krueger character haunted nine films and two TV series in what was New Line’s most lucrative franchise until The Lord of the Rings..

Deal comes as Bay, Fuller and Form ready an early May start for Friday the 13th, New Line’s relaunch of another iconic baddie, Jason Voorhees.. Marcus Nispel will direct from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift ( Freddy vs. Jason )..

Both franchises will be given a complete overhaul, just as Platinum Dunes did with the Nispel - directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.. New Line will be looking to hire a writer for Nightmare now that the writers strike has ended..

After playing Lex Luthor for seven years now on Smallville, you’d think actor Michael Rosenbaum would be sick of playing a household name villain..

Not so according to Cinema Blend who’ve picked up the interesting rumor that Rosenbaum was seen out and about lunching with Michael Bay in Hollywood this past weekend, and that they were talking business..

What business? Why the planned reboot of the classic horror movie A Nightmare on Elm Street that Bay’s Platinum Dunes is producing is the best guess.. Could this mean Rosenbaum is slipping on the sharp claws that Robert Englund made famous?

However, Michael Bay has a lot of pokers in the fire and they could have really been talking about anything.. Maybe he wants him to voice a robot in Transformers 2.. But Rosenbaum is about the right age to put on the claws and play Freddy in a reboot, and for some weird reason it’s easy to picture him actually excelling at the role.. He’d never be Robert Englund, but Rosenbaum actually might not be half bad..

Oddly enough, Rosenbaum has actually worked with the original Freddy Krueger, Robert Englund before.. In 1998 they both appeared in Urban Legend..

It’s all wild conjecture, but Bay and Rosenbaum are definitely up to something.. But of course Tomorrow’s Entertainment is here to shed some light about the rumors, before this rumor spreads like wildfire..

We checked our sources and have confirmed that this news is 100% pure BS - even to the extent that Michael Bay has NOT, I repeat not, had lunch with Rosenbaum.. Even if they did do lunch, how two people having lunch turns into a casting speculation is hilarious to me, especially when Platinum Dunes is casting two other movies at the moment..

I love that Michael Bay is bringing back Jason and Freddy. I’ve heard some negative comments, but I am really looking forward to this. I was one of the few who liked Michael Bay’s remakes of The Amityville Horror and Texas Chainsaw Massacre ;)
